Marriage doesnt shield polygamist
The week's news at a glance.
Nephi, Utah
A Utah judge found polygamist Tom Green guilty of child rape this week because he had sex with one of his five wives when she was 13 years old. Linda Kunz, who married Green in 1986, refused to testify against him. “We don’t feel like this was a crime,” she said. Prosecutors went after Green, 54, after he advocated his lifestyle on national TV. He is already serving five years for bigamy, and could face life in prison when he is sentenced in August. No witnesses testified at the two-hour trial. Prosecutors produced birth certificates showing Linda Kunz was born in 1973, and had her first child in 1986. “Basically,” said Judge Donald Eyre, “this case comes down to math.”
