How popular is the book?
Since it was first published in 2003, The Da Vinci Code has sold more than 40 million copies in 44 languages. It is the fastest-selling adult book of all time, and has been on the New York Times best-seller list for an astounding 159 weeks. Thanks to the newly released paperback version, which had an initial print run of 6 million copies, it currently holds the No. 1 fiction slot there. The Da Vinci Code has also spawned thousands of book clubs and online chat boards. For the past three summers, tourists have overrun the European churches and other locales where much of the action takes place. The book has reportedly earned its author, Dan Brown, more than $425 million.
