1. Corbyn destined for Downing Street finds new analysis
Jeremy Corbyn would be bound for 10 Downing Street after a general election that would see the Conservatives lose 59 seats, according to a poll of polls in the Sunday Telegraph. The analysis found that Corbyn's party would be left the largest in the House of Commons. The President of the British Polling Council said Brexiteers had been “drawn back to either Ukip or Nigel Farage's Brexit Party”.
2. Study finds that poor renters are trapped in new British slums
Private renters are “trapped” in Britains “new slums”, reports The Observer. Some 90% of the 1.4m households renting on low incomes in England are facing harmful living conditions, and pushed further into poverty and possible eviction by rents they cannot afford, according to a new study. The authors say the poor are cutting back on food to pay their rents.
3. Police open fire as driver rams ambassador's car in London
Police opened fire on a vehicle outside the Ukrainian embassy in London after the driver repeatedly rammed into the official car of the country's UK ambassador. The embassy said officers who were called to the site on Saturday morning initially attempted to block the offending vehicle. A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of police officers and criminal damage.

4. Largest aeroplane takes to skies for ‘fantastic’ flight
The world's largest aeroplane by wingspan has flown for the first time. The Stratolaunch has six engines and two fuselages and is designed to carry up to three rockets capable of being launched into orbit. The pilot Evan Thomas said the experience was “fantastic” and that “for the most part, the airplane flew as predicted”.
5. Surprise as best place to live in the UK is revealed
Salisbury has topped a list of the best places to live in the UK, just a year after a novichok poisoning attack hit the city. The Wiltshire city was judged to have a “real collective spirit” in the wake of the poisonings. The Isle of Dogs in the London borough of Tower Hamlets is named as the best place to live in the capital.
6. Sudan's interim military leader pledges to uproot the regime
The head of Sudan's interim military council has vowed to “uproot the regime” two days after a military coup. Lt-Gen Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Burhan appeared on television to announce the restructuring of state institutions, the end of a night curfew and the release of political prisoners. He said the army would maintain “peace, order and security” across Sudan during a transition period.
7. Under-fire Ilhan Omar speaks of ‘unwavering love’ for US
Ilhan Omar says that no one can “threaten” her “unwavering love for America” as she faces attacks from Donald Trump, Republicans and right-wing media outlets. Writing on the Twitter, Minnesota representative said: “I did not run for Congress to be silent”. She is under attack for a statement in which she said “some people did something” on 9/11.
8. Florida man dies after his flightless bird attacks him
A 75-year-old man has been killed in Florida after he was attacked by the large flightless bird he owned. The authorities were called on Friday and found the man, Marvin Hajos, badly wounded by a cassowary. He was taken to hospital by paramedics where he died from his injuries. Police say they believe it was a “tragic accident”.
9. One dead following shooting outside Melbourne nightclub
One person has died and one other is in a critical condition after a shooting outside a nightclub in Melbourne, Australia. A 37-year-old died in hospital from his injuries. Local police say the incident took place at the Love Machine nightclub in Prahran - just outside the city, at 3.20am local time. No arrests have been made.
10. Islamic State plans operations ‘inspired by Paris attack’
Islamic State plans to copy the Paris 2015 atrocity with fresh wave of attacks, according to documents. The paperwork shows detailed plans for terrorist assaults in Europe, funded and controlled by IS leaders. Listing the Paris massacre as inspiration, the authors say they will plan “special operations” with a “determined goal and outcome that are picked carefully”.
