1. ARCHBISHOP FACING 'NAKED RACISM'

Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu, tipped to be the next Archbishop of Canterbury, is the victim of “naked racism” and "snobbery", says one of his supporters. Rev Arun Arora also claimed there is an “anonymous whispering campaign" against Sentamu.

2. FRAUDSTER 'EXTRADITED TO UK'

The convicted swindler and former Lib Dem donor Michael Brown is being extradited to Britain, claim police in the Dominican Republic. Brown, who fled to the Caribbean island, was convicted in his absence in 2008 for stealing £36m after posing as a bond dealer.

3. FEMALE MUTILIATION RIFE IN UK

As many as 100,000 women in Britain have undergone sexual mutilations, and British doctors are willing to perform the illegal operations, reports The Sunday Times. Reporters filmed three medics offering to circumcise -or assist the circumcision of - children as young as 10.

4. WATERGATE 'HATCHET MAN' DIES

Charles Colson, an aide to Richard Nixon involved in the Watergate scandal, has died at the age of 80. Colson, known as Nixon's "hatchet man", was jailed for his role in discrediting a political opponent. He later became an evangelical preacher.

5. MUAMBA 'GOD DIDN'T LET ME DOWN'

Footballer Fabrice Muamba has spoken for the first time of his collapse on the pitch last month, telling The Sun: “I asked God to protect me — and he didn’t let me down.” The Bolton star, who recovered after 'dying' for 78 minutes, said: “I am walking proof of the power of prayer".

6. MEN 'TO OUTLIVE WOMEN' FORECAST

Men can expect to outlive women for the first time since records began after abandoning the unhealthy habits of the 1960s, predicts the Office for National Statistics. Boys now aged 12 can expect to live to 87.1, the same for girls, while younger males will outlive females.

7. FRENCH VOTE FOR PRESIDENT

The French are going to the polls to vote in the presidential election. Incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy says only he can preserve a "strong France" but he is facing a strong challenge from Socialist Francois Hollande, who has said it is "the left's turn to govern".

8. ACTIVIST DIES IN BAHRAIN

An activist has been killed during clashes in Bahrain, say protestors, as security forces insist that the Formula 1 Grand Prix will not be disrupted by protests in the Gulf state. The man's body was discovered overnight on a rooftop.

9. GIBB AWAKES FROM COMA

Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb has woken from a coma and is showing signs of recovery. Gibb, who made a "spectacular" recovery from cancer in February, fell into the coma after contracting pneumonia. His brother Barry had sung to Robin to try and rouse him.

10. THOUSANDS TO RUN MARATHON

Around 35,000 runners are expected to take part in today's London Marathon. Over 100 of the runners are aiming to break world records, including a pair who are trying to break the record for the fastest time on stilts - currently eight hours and 25 minutes.
