1. PM: CHURCH MUST 'GET WITH THE PROGRAMME'

The Church of England should "get with the programme" and approve women bishops, David Cameron has said during Prime Minister's Questions. He added the Church, which rejected a plan to allow women bishops last night, needed to be given "a sharp prod". Earlier, the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams said the Church had "lost a measure of credibility".

2. 'TERRORIST' BOMB BLOWS UP ISRAEL BUS

At least 21 people have been injured after a bus exploded in Tel Aviv. A spokesman for Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said: "This was a terrorist attack. Most of the injured suffered only mild injuries." Hamas told Reuters it "blesses" the attack. The BBC reports that 11 people have been killed in Gaza today. Meanwhile, talks aimed at securing a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel are continuing.

3. CONGO REBELS SEIZE CITY OF GOMA

The Congo rebel army, also known as the M23 militia, yesterday seized control of Goma, the largest city in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, after the Congolese army fled. Some residents greeted the M23 fighters with cheers; most hid indoors, fearful of reprisals. UN peacekeeping troops simply looked on.

4. FAT DUCK CHEFS DIE IN HONG KONG CRASH

Two chefs from the Michelin-starred Fat Duck restaurant in Bray, Berkshire were killed yesterday along with their taxi driver in a collision with a bus in Hong Kong. Jorge Herrera, 30, a Briton, and his Swedish colleague Carl Lindgren, 34, had been "uniquely talented young chefs". Police arrested the bus driver on suspicion of dangerous driving.

5. BLOW TO OSBORNE AS UK BORROWING SOARS

UK government borrowing was £8.6bn in October - £2.6bn higher than expected, the Office for National Statistics has revealed. The increase was partly due to a fall in corporation tax receipts. The figures are inconvenient for Chancellor George Osborne, who is due to give his Autumn Statement on 5 December.

6. CHILD ABUSE REPORT 'IGNORES ASIAN GANGS'

At least 2,409 children were raped or abused by men in England between August 2010 and October 2011, according to a report by Sue Berelowitz, the Deputy Children's Commissioner. But some politicians quickly criticised the report for playing down the role of British Pakistani gangs – a statistic that is "staring us in the face".

7. ROBERTO DI MATTEO SACKED BY CHELSEA

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has been sacked by Roman Abramovich following last night’s 3-0 defeat to Juventus, a loss that all but ends their defence of the Champions League title they won last season. Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is favourite to take charge until the end of the season ahead of a move for Pep Guardiola.

8. PET DOG KILLS EIGHT-DAY-OLD BABY

An eight-day-old baby has died after being bitten by a pet dog. Harry Harper died of his injuries after he was attacked by the Jack Russell at the home of his grandparents in Ketley. The animal has been put down. West Mercia Police said the incident appeared to be "a tragic accident" and the family were "absolutely devastated".

9. VILLAGES 'CUT OFF' BY FLOODS

Some villages in the South West are said to be "cut off" after heavy rain and flooding, with reports of motorists being rescued from waterlogged roads. The Environment Agency issued more than 100 flood warnings as the band of wet weather moved eastwards across the country. Public transport has been affected and some schools were closed today.
