1. WOMAN DIES AS STORMS RAGE ON

A woman died in Devon as storms continued to pummel the south-west of England. She died after being struck by a falling tree in Exeter. Two other people were treated for minor injuries. The Environment Agency has more than 200 flood warnings in England and has issued severe flood warnings for four areas of Cornwall.

2. CHARLES: 'I'M RUNNING OUT OF TIME'

Prince Charles has spoken about his long wait for the throne, saying: “I’ll run out of time soon. I shall have snuffed it if I’m not careful.” The remarks, made during a film for the Clarence House website, come as speculation grows the 64-year-old is increasingly keen to ascend to the throne. He said: “Impatient? Me? What a thing to suggest! Yes, of course I am.”

3. PRESS REFORM 'WOULD PLEASE DICTATORS'

Statutory controls on the press would aid dictators and send an "appalling message" abroad, a global press body is warning foreign secretary William Hague. The World Press Freedom Committee has written to Hague ahead of Thursday's Leveson report. It warned a "chill will go through the world's media" if the report recommends reform.

4. TORY MPS DEMAND EU REFERENDUM

Tory backbenchers are urging David Cameron to hold a referendum on EU membership. Writing in The Sunday Telegraph, Mark Pritchard argues that only a clear "in/out" referendum question will “assuage the British people”. Tony Blair will argue this week that leaving the EU "top table" would be a disaster for Britain.

5. 'HYPOCRITICAL' MAY ORDERED DEER CULL

Brian May has been described as "utterly hypocritical" after it was revealed the anti-badger-cull campaigner ordered the culling of deer on his Dorset estate. The cull led to the death of "23 mainly young, healthy animals". The rock star says he stopped the killings "a couple of years ago", but has been attacked by GlosCon, the company behind the badger cull.

6. BANGLADESH FIRE CLAIMS 120 LIVES

At least 120 people have died in a fire in a clothes factory in Bangladesh. The fire broke out on Saturday at the Tazreen Fashion factory in Ashulia, near the capital Dhaka. Some of the deaths came as people jumped out of the building to escape the fire. There are several fires each year in Bangladesh factories due to poor safety standards.

7. MORE RIGHTS FOR HOUSEHOLDERS

Householders who attack burglars will not be prosecuted unless they use “grossly disproportionate” force, under reforms announced by the Department for Justice. The law currently states that only “proportionate” and “reasonable” force can be used. The reform, to be introduced within days, follows a series of arrests of householders for tackling burglars.

8. HATTON RETIRES AFTER NINTH-ROUND DEFEAT

The former two-weight world champion boxer Ricky Hatton has announced his retirement from the sport after losing to Vyacheslav Senchenko in Manchester. It was the 34-year-old's first fight since 2009. "A fighter knows and I know it isn't there anymore," said Hatton. "I have got to be a man and say it is the end of Ricky Hatton."

9. SHOCKING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE FIGURES

One in four women will be abused by a partner and up to one in five 999 calls are connected to domestic abuse, according to a new survey published in The Independent On Sunday. Researchers also found that every week two women are killed by a current or former partner. The charity Refuge says cuts mean support services for battered women are "vanishing".

10. UNITED GO TOP AND WENGER BITES BACK

Manchester United moved to the top of the Premier League after coming from behind to beat QPR 3-1 at Old Trafford. New QPR boss Harry Redknapp watched from the stands. Under fire Arsene Wenger snapped at journalists following Arsenal's 0-0 draw at Aston Villa. "I have managed for 30 years at the top level and I have to convince you I can manage the team?" he said.
