3. MILIBAND: COALITION ‘SMOKE AND MIRRORS’
Ed Miliband has dismissed the government’s plan to cut the cost of household energy bills by £50 as “smoke and mirrors”. He said the “cosy deal” with the ‘big six’ energy firms will still see prices rise this winter, adding that ministers don’t “get” the cost-of-living crisis. Labour pledged to freeze bills for 20 months.

4. FOUR DEAD AFTER NYC TRAIN DERAILS
Four people have been killed and 63 injured after a train derailed in New York city, ending up just a few feet from the Harlem river. The seven-carriage passenger Metro-North train from Poughkeepsie to Grand Central derailed at 7.20am New York time on Sunday, 100 yards north of Spuyten Duyvil station in the Bronx.

5. NPOWER TO FREEZE PRICES UNTIL 2015
Npower, one of the ‘big six’ energy firms, has announced it will freeze prices until the spring of 2015 - unless the wholesale costs of energy rise. The firm raised its prices by 10.4 per cent this weekend but says that increase will be reduced once it has calculated how much government changes to green levies will affect it.

6. PROTEST STAND-OFF IN UKRAINE OVER EU
Protesters are camped out in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, after days of unrest. Many spent last night in Independence Square while others are barricaded inside the city hall. The demonstrators are angry about a government U-turn on a deal which would have seen the former Soviet state allied more closely with the EU.
7. BANGKOK: THAI PM WILL NOT STAND DOWN
Thai PM Yingluck Shinawatra has refused to resign after days of demonstrations demanding she go. Four people have died in the country’s worst political turmoil since 2010. This morning, protesters tried to storm Shinawatra’s office, Government House. They claim she is controlled by her brother, a former PM.

Olympic diver Tom Daley has announced in a self-filmed video that he has been dating a man since the spring. "Now I feel ready to talk about my relationships," says the 19-year-old. "And come spring my life changed massively when I met someone and they make me feel so safe, happy and everything feels great. And that someone is a guy."

9. AMAZON TESTS DELIVERY DRONES
Online retailer Amazon is testing unmanned helicopter drones to deliver packages to customers within half an hour of ordering, in a service to be called Amazon Air. Admitting it sounded like “science fiction”, boss Jeff Bezos said the service would be ready in the US as soon as civilian drone use was legalised, in 2015.

10. HOT TICKET: BUSH'S FOOTBALL COMEDY
Tom Wells's football comedy, Jumpers for Goalposts, has opened at the Bush Theatre, London. Barely Athletic, a gay and lesbian five-a-side football team, struggle to break their losing streak, while romantic and family dramas get in the way. "Blissfully funny," says the Daily Telegraph. Until 4 January.
