1. JIMMY SAVILE ABUSE REPORTS REACH 500
Research by the NSPCC has revealed there have been at least 500 reports of abuse committed by the late TV personality, Sir Jimmy Savile, with the youngest alleged victim just two. A lawyer representing 170 claimants, Liz Dux, is calling for reporting abuse claims to be made mandatory in schools.

2. MADELEINE MCCANN: POLICE TO DIG IN PRAIA
Police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann are to begin excavations, after sealing off an area of scrubland in the Praia da Luz resort where the three-year-old vanished in 2007. The are expected to use ground penetrating radar and ‘victim recovery’ dogs to search the wider area first.

3. CAMERON JOINS FIFA CRITICISM OVER QATAR
Fifa ethics investigator Michael Garcia is to meet organisers of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar today, after the Sunday Times reported that millions of pounds were paid to Fifa officials who supported the bid. Calls for Qatar to be stripped of the tournament are growing, and Prime Minister David Cameron today said he had "unhappy" memories of the 2010 vote "and the role of Fifa".

4. IPCC LAUNCHES LAWRENCE SPY PROBE
The Independent Police Complaints Commission is to investigate claims of "discreditable conduct" by a Scotland Yard commander and two former senior officers after allegations they were involved in a plot to spy on the family of murdered black teenager, Stephen Lawrence. The move comes after Mark Ellison led an inquiry into claims of espionage.
5. TORIES SET TO HOLD NEWARK, SAYS POLL
The Conservatives are set to hold on to Newark in this week's by-election, despite a big fall in their share of the vote, according to a poll commissioned by Lord Ashcroft. It suggests the Tories will get 42% (down 12 points on the 2010 election), with Ukip coming second on 27% (up 24 points) and Labour third on 20% (down two).

6. ROLF DAUGHTER'S SHOCK OVER 'AFFAIR'
Rolf Harris's daughter, Bindi, has told a jury of her shock when she discovered her father had been having an affair with her best friend. She said her friend told her she was "in love" with Harris. The 84-year-old entertainer is on trial for a string of alleged sexual assaults on a string of women and girls, including his daughter's friend.

7. SOLAR PLANE READY FOR ROUND-WORLD TRIP
A solar-powered plane which is to be flown around the world by two adventurers in 2015 has completed a successful test flight in Switzerland. The Solar Impulse 2 is an updated version of a plane which crossed the US last year. The carbon-fibre plane weighs just 2.3 tonnes yet has a bigger wingspan than a 747.

8. KING JUAN CARLOS OF SPAIN TO ABDICATE
Spain's King Juan Carlos is to abdicate, the country's prime minister has said. Juan Carlos, who is 76, came to power in 1975 and set Spain on a path to democracy, later facing down a military coup. He will be succeeded by his son, Prince Filipe. He made the announcement in a televised address.

9. HOT TICKET: SOUTH AFRICAN DRAMA
South African drama A Human Being Died That Night has opened at the Hampstead Theatre, London. The play depicts real interviews by psychologist Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela with the notorious apartheid regime assassin Eugene de Kock and explores ideas of guilt and forgiveness. "Unmissable," says The Independent. Until 21 June.

10. FAKE FOOTBALLER JOINS ENGLAND TEAM
TV comedian Simon Brodkin, known for his BBC3 character Lee Nelson, has been given "strong police advice", after joining the England football team on the tarmac at Luton airport as they prepared for departure to pre-World Cup training. Brodkin, dressed in an identical suit to the players, was dragged away from the group after being spotted.
