1. IRAQ: INSURGENTS HEAD TOWARDS BAGHDAD

More than 150,000 Iraqis, including government soldiers, have fled the city of Mosul after it was overrun by fighters from Islamist group Isis. PM Nouri Maliki has declared a state of emergency and asked for special powers of arrest and curfew. Insurgents have now reached Tikrit, north of Baghdad. UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon said he was “gravely concerned”.
