Christine Todd Whitman, a senior figure in the US Republican party, has said she fears for the future of her seven grandchildren with Donald Trump in the White House. 6. Farron accuses May of 'empty words'
The Lib Dem leader, Tim Farron, has accused Theresa May of "empty words" in her New Year message, in which she pledged to represent the interest of people who voted Remain in the EU referendum, as well as the pro-Brexit camp. Farron insisted that May's previous statements showed she is "driving headlong towards a hard Brexit".

The daughter of a friend of South Korea's president has been arrested in Denmark, accused of staying in the country illegally.
