1. Theresa May 'taking nothing for granted' after local romp

Theresa May says she will "not take anything for granted" as this morning’s papers predict a landslide victory for her at the general election. The Conservatives gained 500 seats and seized control of 11 councils, but the Prime Minister says there is "too much at stake" for her team to be complacent. Labour’s Jeremy Corbyn admits his party faces a challenge on a "historic scale".

2. Police officer charged with murder over black teen shooting

A sacked police officer has been charged with murder over the fatal shooting of a black teenager in Dallas. Roy Oliver opened fire on a vehicle, killing 15-year-old Jordan Edwards with a single bullet in the head. Although police initially claimed that the car reversed "aggressively" towards the officer, they later admitted that was not the case and that the vehicle was driving away from them.

3. Emmanuel Macron says he faced a 'massive' hack

Emmanuel Macron's campaign team claims it has been the target of a "massive hacking attack" following the leaking online of hundreds of internal documents. The French presidential candidate’s aides said that authentic documents had been combined social media with fake ones in order to confuse voters and spread "doubt and misinformation". The election’s second round vote takes place tomorrow.

4. Two-thirds of Brits suffer mental health challenges

Two-thirds of British adults have experienced a mental health problem, according to new research from the Mental Health Foundation. More than a quarter (26%) said they have had a panic attack while 42% said they had suffered from depression. Broadcaster Piers Morgan caused a storm yesterday after telling men with mental health problems they should "get a grip".

5. France outlaws extremely thin fashion models

France has banned the use of unhealthily thin models in fashion shoots. In a bid to fight eating disorders and unattainable aspirations of beauty, a new law will require models to provide a doctor's certificate vouching for their physical health, including their body mass index. Digitally altered photos will also have to be labelled as "photographie retouchée" - retouched photograph.

6. Why motorway speed limits could be cut to 60mph

Motorway speed limits could be cut from 70mph to 60mph as part of government plans to tackle air pollution. Officials, who have claimed that vehicles produce more harmful emissions when they are travelling at higher speeds, suggest that areas of motorway with high levels of emissions should have a cut in speed limits of 10mph.

7. Junker says English is losing importance in Europe

The English language is losing importance in Europe, says Jean-Claude Juncker. The president of the European Commission said: "Slowly but surely English is losing importance in Europe." Speaking to an audience of European ambassadors in Florence, he added: "Our British friends decided to leave the EU, which is a tragedy." The speech came as tensions rose over Brexit negotiations.

8. Talking to yourself 'is a sign of better brainpower'

Researchers at Bangor University have concluded that talking to yourself could be a sign of intelligence. Their study found that people who read instructions for a task out loud perform better than those who do not. The experts found that speaking out loud helps the brain to absorb the material and "could actually be a sign of high cognitive functioning".

9. Amputee teen Monger to get back behind the wheel

A teenage Formula 4 driver who had both legs amputated after a crash has vowed to race. Speaking as he turned 18, Billy Monger, from Surrey, said: "I'll be back racing as soon as I can." He added: "All the support just makes me more determined." Monger struck the back of a stationary car at Donington Park in April and was trapped for 90 minutes.

10. Kanye West disappears from Twitter and Instagram

Kanye West appears to have quit social media. The American rapper has deleted his Twitter and Instagram accounts without any announcement or explanation. His Twitter page, which had more than 27m followers, now brings up a message saying: "Sorry, that page doesn't exist!" His Instagram account features a similar error message. His wife, Kim Kardashian West, is still using her social media accounts.
