Man City injury news: Gabriel Jesus 'has surgery on foot'

Having been hailed as Manchester City's savior, Gabriel Jesus may need a miracle to resurrect his season after limping off against Bournemouth.

After the match, which City won 2-0, manager Pep Guardiola said he was "praying" for the 19-year-old who finally arrived at the Etihad in January after agreeing a £27m deal in the summer.

However, the teenager is believed to have broken a bone in his foot and could be out for the rest of the campaign after reportedly undergoing surgery.

Jesus was "spotted wearing a protective boot and walking using crutches in Manchester city centre on Tuesday", reports the Daily Mail, which says he is "expected to be out for three months with a broken metatarsal".

There's more detail in the Daily Mirror, which says the bone in question is the fifth metatarsal. The paper offers a different timescale for the player's possible comeback. The "minimum recovery time for such an injury is around two months", it says, but agrees "there are fears Gabriel's season could be over".

According to reports in Brazil, brought to a British audience via the Sport Witness website, Jesus was given two options after the injury and chose surgery.

He made the decision after being told that an operation "would leave him out for two or three months, with the certainty that he’ll have completely recovered after that period". The other option was physiotherapy, with a return possible within a month and "the risk of the injury returning".

Manchester City have yet to make an official comment on the player's injury.
