Aliens ‘will teach us to eradicate disease’

Aliens will teach humans how to “eradicate all diseases” and boost our average life span to 220 years, at least according to the TV personality and psychic Uri Geller. In a series of social media posts, the 75-year-old spoon-bender warned Nasa to prepare for a “mass alien invasion”. “A team mapping radio waves in the universe has discovered something unusual that releases a giant burst of energy three times an hour,” he wrote. These energy bursts have been observed by Natasha Hurley-Walker from the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research, who described it as “kind of spooky”.

Bette Midler told to kiss dog’s backside

An eventful day at the West Virginia state capitol building saw the governor lift up his dog, raise its backside in the air and tell the US actor Bette Midler to “kiss her hiney!” Jim Justice performed the stunt after the actress and singer described the people of West Virginia as “poor, illiterate and strung out”. Midler responded to the governor’s gimmick by suggesting that a dog’s rear end would make a better governor than him

‘Beaver dating agency’ is a hit

A “dating agency” for beavers has proven a great success, according to the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. Although beavers were hunted to extinction in Britain in the 16th century, they have been reintroduced to parts of Scotland, England and Wales in the hope that they can restore wetland habitats and boost other species. “All of our beavers had never met before they were released into Willington Wetlands, so it was a bit of a beaver dating agency when we brought them all on site,” a spokesperson from the trust told the BBC.
