Premier League news and gossip: Anthony Martial, Ivan Gazidis, Alisson
Five things to know today about English football’s top-flight
Martial risks huge fine
Anthony Martial could receive a £180,000 fine for failing to report to training at Manchester United, ESPN reports.
The French forward left United’s pre-season tour to travel to Paris for the birth of his second child and had been expected to return to United. However Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho told the BBC that he “doesn’t know” when Martial will come back.

Martial, who has been linked with Chelsea and Tottenham, could receive a fine of two weeks ages if United take action, ESPN says.
Arsenal prepare for possible Gazidis departure
It was reported last week that Arsenal’s Ivan Gazidis was a target for AC Milan and today The Daily Telegraph says the Gunners are “now giving serious consideration to the potential loss” of their chief executive.
The Telegraph says Gazidis has “formally informed” Arsenal that he has received an offer from the Italians. If Gazidis was to leave, Arsenal are confident that their managerial set-up is “well equipped to deal with and adapt to his potential departure”.
Alisson feels at home at Anfield
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker had only taken part in one training session with his new teammates but the Brazilian says he is feeling right at home on Merseyside. The 25-year-old, who signed from Roma last month, told the club’s website: “It has been a great day which I had been looking forward to. I’ve had a good few resting days with my family but we all couldn’t wait to get the new season underway. It’s only my first day and I feel at home already!”
Get ready for the final sales
The final few days of the Premier League summer transfer window is expected to see “significant” sums spent on players, the BBC reports. According to Deloitte Premier League clubs had spent a total £900m up to 31 July and would need to spend £530m before the window closes to beat last year’s record of £1.4bn. The summer transfer window closes at 5pm on Thursday 9 August.
Burnley’s keeper crisis
Sky Sports reports that Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope has had successful surgery on the dislocated shoulder he suffered in last week’s Europa League qualifier against Aberdeen.
However, Pope’s shoulder issue is the latest goalkeeping problem for the Clarets. Tom Heaton is a doubt for tomorrow’s second leg against the Scottish side while Anders Lindegaard is fit to play despite a thigh injury.
With just one fully fit goalkeeper the BBC reports that Burnley are seeking dispensation from Uefa to register fourth-choice stopper Adam Legzdins for the second qualifying round second leg.
