The latest annual Femicide Census found that 149 women were killed by 147 men in the UK in 2018 - ten more deaths than the previous year and the highest total since the records began. More than half of the 2018 victims were killed by a current or former partner.

A far-right terrorist shot dead ten people before killing himself in the German town of Hanau, while a man was arrested in London for attempted murder after a stabbing in a mosque in the English capital.

In New Zealand, a man found guilty of murdering British backpacker Grace Millane has been sentenced to a minimum of 17 years in prison.

Other world news includes an escalation in violence between Turkish forces and Syrian government troops, leading the United Nations to warn of “the biggest humanitarian horror story of the 21st century” if a ceasefire is not reached.

In the US, Donald Trump’s friend and self-described “dirty trickster” political strategist Roger Stone has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison for lying to Congress in a bid to protect the president.

Meanwhile, an Indiana man who had “crime pays” tattooed across his forehead is back behind bars after being arrested for the second time in three months.
