Jaguar XE 2019: prices, specs, interior tech and release date
New look and a hi-tech cabin gives British marque’s smallest saloon extra ‘kerbside appeal’
Jaguar has unveiled an updated version of its XE saloon that offers a sleek new look and tech upgrades plucked from the company’s I-Pace electric car.
The new XE will go head-to-head with BMW’s latest 3 Series and the Mercedes the Mercedes C-Class, as the motoring giants battle for the top spot in the competitive mid-size saloon market.
The XE design tweaks have been inspired by Jaguar models including the F-Type sports car, from which the new model takes its curved bonnet and aggressive rear-end styling, reports Car magazine.

The cabin has also been upgraded with the latest infotainment technology, further boosting the XE’s “kerbside appeal”, the motoring mag says.
Here’s what else we know about on Jaguar’s compact new car:
When does it come out?
Orders are open now. To coincide with the launch, Jaguar has published an online configurator that allows buyers to customise the XE.
How much will it cost?
Standard XE models start at £33,915, while the sportier XE R-Dynamic versions cost from £35,505.
What interior tech do buyers get?
The British marque has reworked the XE’s cabin to bring the interior up to the standard of its more recent releases.
The “elegant” steering wheel has been plucked from the all-electric Jaguar I-Pace, as have the three “comprehensive” digital screens around the centre console and dashboard, says Autocar.
Two touchscreen panels in the centre console control the infotainment system and climate control settings.
The third, which sits behind the steering wheel, houses the car’s digital instrument cluster. This display is customisable, allowing drivers to change the design of the virtual dials, or, say, swap the rev counter for a second satnav screen.
Buyers get a host of hi-tech safety features as well, including lane keep assistance, which automatically turns the wheel if the driver begins to stray outside their lane.
LED head and taillights also come as standard, as do front and rear parking sensors, says Auto Express.
What about the engine selection?
Jaguar is “keeping it simple” with the XE’s engine line-up, says CarBuyer. At launch, buyers will be able to choose from two petrol motors and one diesel.
Both petrol models uses the same 2.0-litre four cylinder engine, available in either 247bhp and 296bhp form. The diesel range comprises of a single 2.0-litre motor producing 178bhp.
All models come with eight-speed automatic gearboxes and can be specced with either rear or four-wheel drive systems.
