Skoda Kamiq 2019: prices, specs, tech and release
Czech firm takes on Nissan Juke and Renault Captur with new compact crossover
Skoda has lifted the lid on its new Kamiq SUV ahead of the new car’s public debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
Based on the same Volkswagen-sourced production platform as the Seat Arona and VW T-Cross, the Kamiq takes the form of a compact crossover to rival the likes of the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur.
Although the new model is entering a hotly contested section of the market, Skoda’s low pricing and tech-filled vehicles are usually a hit with car buyers.

With just few days until it appears in the metal at the Geneva event, running from 7 to 17 March, here’s everything you need to know about the new Kamiq.
When does it come out?
According to Autocar, the Kamiq is due to hit showrooms between early July and the end of September.
How much will it cost?
Skoda is expected to confirm pricing at the Geneva extravaganza, but CarBuyer reckons the Kamiq will cost from around £17,000.
What interior tech do buyers get?
Inside, the Kamiq’s dashboard is “dominated” by a 9.2in touchscreen display controlling the car’s infotainment system and satnav that sits just above the centre console, reports the Daily Express.
Behind the steering wheel is a 10.25 “virtual cockpit” monitor, which displays the car’s instruments and vehicle data. This screen is customisable, allowing drivers to swap between the speedometer and infotainment settings without looking at the 9.2in panel.
The Kamiq’s boot space comes in at 400 litres - identical to the Arona on which the car is based and 40 litres larger than its Nissan Juke rival, says Autocar. The tailgate, which opens electrically, is also equipped with a torch in case drivers run into trouble at night.
What about safety features?
As standard, all models are equipped with autonomous emergency braking systems, which automatically applies the brakes when the car senses an impact is imminent, What Car? reports. Lane keep assistance, a system that prevents drivers from straying into other lanes, also comes as standard.
And buyers can spec a blind spot warning system, adaptive cruise control, self-parking and even a system that “monitors you for signs of fatigue”, the reviews site says.
What engines are Skoda offering?
At launch, buyers will be able to choose from three different engines with four power outputs.
Kicking off the petrol line-up is a 1.0-litre engine, available in either 94bhp or 113bhp form, says Auto Express.
Next up is a 1.5-litre engine producing 148bhp. Skoda isn’t planning a sporty VRs version of the Kamiq any time soon, so this engine will be the most powerful option in the range.
There’s just a single diesel in the range: a 1.6-litre TDI motor producing 113bhp and 184lb-ft of torque.
