On Sunday, Israeli warplanes targeted two areas near Damascus, the Syrian military said, striking close to the airport and close to the border with Lebanon.
In a statement to Syria's official news agency, SANA, the military said that "this aggression demonstrates Israel's direct involvement in supporting terrorism in Syria along with well-known regional and Western countries to raise the morale of terrorist groups, mainly the Nusra Front."
There is no evidence that Israel has given any support to the Nusra Front, The Associated Press reports. Israel has never confirmed any strikes in Syria, and when asked for comment Sunday, the Israeli military said it would not discuss "foreign reports." The director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strikes targeted depots and hangars that held weapons.
