President Barack Obama will announce executive orders next week to overhaul the nation's immigration system, The New York Times reports.

The plan could shield up to five million undocumented immigrants from deportation, administration officials told the Times.

Under one part of Obama's proposed plan, many parents of children who are U.S. citizens or legal residents will be eligible for legal work permits if they have lived in the U.S. for at least five years.
