NBC extends Matt Lauer's contract to keep him for 'multiple more years'

Matt Lauer is staying put.
NBC News announced today that the host has signed a contract extension that will keep him anchoring Today for "multiple more years." The New York Times notes that the signing comes at a "tumultuous time" as the former top breakfast program fell to second place when former co-anchor Ann Curry was unceremoniously dumped — an ouster that many blamed Lauer for.
Lauer's current deal, which reportedly pays him as much as $20 million a year, was set to expire in the next few months. NBC execs didn't disclose the exact terms regarding his new contract.
