The World Cup honeymoon is over in Brazil and the tournament hasn't even started. A robust 61 percent of Brazilians say that hosting the World Cup is bad for the nation because it will divert billions of dollars from other public projects, according to a Pew poll out Tuesday; only 34 percent say hosting it is a good thing.
Protests have been bubbling for a full year in Brazil, with demonstrators accusing the government of prioritizing the World Cup over much-needed investments in public services. In the past four years alone, Brazilians' net satisfaction with the direction of the country has flipped from a meager +1 to a staggering -46.
