Since 2006, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World director Edgar Wright has been attached to a movie based on the Marvel superhero Ant-Man. Wright's enthusiasm for the character is well-documented and infectious, and it was a relief when the movie finally got off the ground in 2012 — which is why it's so shocking that Wright has left the project due to unspecified creative differences.

In a joint press release on Friday, Wright and Marvel Studios announced that Wright was quitting Ant-Man "due to differences in their vision of the film." Marvel added that another, as-yet unnamed director has already been hired to take over.
