NFL: Redskins name presents 'positive and respectful image'

Citing the Donald Sterling brouhaha, 50 United States Senators on Thursday demanded in a letter to the NFL that the league force the Washington Redskins to change their racist team name. Unsurprisingly, the league has already rebuffed the request — without even reading the letter first.

"The intent of the team's name has always been to present a strong, positive and respectful image," NFL spox Brian McCarthy said in a statement. "The name is not used by the team or the NFL in any other context, though we respect those that view it differently."
