Get your reservations while you can: Restaurant Magazine announced its list of the World's 50 Best Restaurants during a ceremony in London, and Noma in Copenhagen has taken the top spot.
Coming in second in 2013, Noma swapped places with last year's winner, El Celler de Can Roca in Catalonia, Spain. Award organizers describe Noma as being known for "meticulous attention to detail, innovative approach to foraging, and experimentation with fermentation."
Other restaurants that made the cut include Modena, Italy's Osteria Francescana (No. 3), New York's Eleven Madison Park (No. 4), Lima's Central (No. 15), Bangkok's Gaggan (No. 17), and San Francisco's Coi (No. 49). The New York Times points out that the list is "an increasingly influential but somewhat arbitrary ranking," and that the algorithm that decides the rankings is still obscure. For the chefs and restaurant owners who made the grade, though, none of that matters. "We didn't expect it at all, we thought we had our moment on this list," says Rene Redzepi, chef-owner of Noma. "I know that for the team, this is the biggest moment."
