For the past 15 years, the New York Yankees have had the highest payroll in professional baseball. But like the Yankees' former dominance over the game, that streak has now, too, come to an end. The Los Angeles Dodgers will open the 2014 baseball season with a league-leading $235 million payroll, according to an Associated Press review of every MLB contract. The Yankees, after spending $470 million on multi-year deals for marquee free agents this offseason, are second with a projected payroll of almost $204 million for the year.

The last team to best the Yankees in spending? The 1998 Baltimore Orioles.
