Iraqi Kurds say their peshmerga forces have severed a key Islamic State supply route between Mosul, Iraq's largest city in the north, and ISIS's Syrian strongholds to the west. The capture of the important crossroads at Kiske, 25 miles west of ISIS-held Mosul, is part of a bigger offensive in which the peshmerga — aided by U.S.-led airstrikes — have cleared ISIS out of about 200 square miles of territory in northern Iraq, Reuters reports.

"Mosul is more isolated from north, east, and south than it was before," said Masrour Barzani, head of the Kurdish Security Council, at a press conference on Wednesday. "There is more heat on ISIS." Watch Reuters' video report below —Peter Weber
