Only 32 percent of Alabama residents support same-sex marriage

A new study has revealed that Alabama's support for same-sex marriage is the lowest in the country.
Researchers looked at a 2014 poll from the Public Religion Research Institute's American Values Atlas project and found that only 32 percent of Alabama residents supported same-sex marriage, while 59 percent were opposed to it. Among Americans overall, meanwhile, 54 percent support same-sex marriage, and 38 percent are opposed to it.
Unsurprisingly, the poll was divided sharply by political affiliations. Seventy-seven percent of Republicans in Alabama were opposed to same-sex marriage, while 49 percent of Democrats said the same.
