Saying that his game needs "a lot of work," Tiger Woods announced Wednesday that he will not play on the PGA Tour until he has improved.
"Right now, I need a lot of work on my game, and to still spend time with the people that are important to me," he wrote on his website. "My play, and scores, are not acceptable for tournament golf." Woods recently shot an 82 in the second round at the Phoenix Open, which ESPN reports was his worst score as a professional on the PGA Tour. He also had to withdraw from Torrey Pines after 11 holes due to tightness in his back.
Woods said that he would like to play in the Honda Classic beginning Feb. 26, but won't if he doesn't feel his game is up to it. "Like I've said, I enter a tournament to compete at the highest level, and when I think I'm ready, I'll be back," he wrote.
