After suffering from nausea and vomiting shortly after consuming meatloaf allegedly laced with rat poison, 19 inmates at the Anna M. Kross Center on New York's Rikers Island filed a federal lawsuit against New York City's Department of Corrections. The suit alleges that that meatloaf served to inmates last Tuesday was laced with a blue and green substance, and that once the inmates became ill, employees confiscated and threw out the contaminated food in order to cover up the poisoning and denied their requests for medical attention.
Prison officials, however, deny any wrongdoing, and Assistant Commissioner for Environmental Health at the Department of Corrections Patricia Feeney issued an affidavit denying any cover-up attempts, adding that none of the prison's rodenticides matched the specks found in the meatloaf.
