On Monday, Syrian Kurdish forces announced they have made their way deeper into Islamic State territory, capturing a military base from ISIS in Raqqa province.

The Kurds are assisted by smaller Syrian rebel groups and U.S.-led airstrikes, and they're now within four miles of Ain Issa, a town 30 miles north of ISIS's de facto capital of Raqqa. "They have been defeated," Kurdish forces spokesman Redur Xelil told Reuters. ISIS captured the military base, Liwa 93, in 2014 from the Syrian military. ISIS was dealt another blow last week, when Kurdish-led forces seized a border crossing from the group, cutting off a supply line to Raqqa.
