The Turkish government confirmed Friday that three F-16 jets took off from an air base in southeast Turkey and used smart bombs to hit three ISIS targets along the Syrian border.
An official, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said the jets took off from the Diyarbakir air base, and the targets were two command centers and a gathering point of ISIS supporters. In a statement, the government said the decision to hit ISIS was made at a security meeting held Thursday after ISIS militants fired from Syria at a Turkish military outpost, killing a soldier. It also came after it was announced that Turkey would allow the U.S. military to use Incirlik air base to launch air strikes against ISIS in Syria.
