Jon Stewart has known his last scheduled guest, Louis C.K., since they performed at New York's Comedy Cellar in the 1980s, and their long friendship is evident. "I came on behalf of comedy to say... yeah, I represent all comedy," C.K. began, after sitting down across from Stewart, who found the premise comical, "...just to say, you know, nice job." He added that while he will miss seeing Stewart behind the Daily Show desk, "I think the most reliable way to to take a good thing and make it go bad is to hold on to it too long... you have to let it go."
Stewart and C.K. discussed their shared history in comedy, how Stewart's departure gives Daily Show fans a chance to fall in love all over again with Trevor Noah's iteration — there's a long riff about how the show is like a relationship — and then C.K. went back to lauding Stewart's long stewardship of the show, noting that to do something so well for so long is rare. "It's really one of the great comedy accomplishments of all time that you did this," C.K. added. It was a sweet moment, probably too sweet, so the two old friends went back to the safer territories of vomit and death. Watch below. Peter Weber
