Ben Carson's finance chairman Dean Parker resigned Thursday, just hours after Politico published a report revealing allegations of his egregious spending and $20,000-a-month salary. Politico alleges that since the tech industry entrepreneur joined the operation, the campaign has "piled up unnecessary expenses and paid hefty consulting fees to an inexperienced staff" on top of the campaign's already high spending.
"It has been a great honor to serve alongside Dr. Carson as he seeks the office of the president of the United States," Parker said in a statement released by Carson's campaign. "While current allegations towards me are misrepresentations, my primary goal is to help Dr. Carson save our nation."
Parker's departure follows those of several other key Carson campaign employees in recent months. Three of Carson's high-ranking advisers resigned in late December amid an internal power struggle.
