An unnamed adviser to the Donald Trump and Ted Cruz campaigns told the Washington Examiner that both candidates are considering Ohio Gov. John Kasich as a potential running mate.
"Why would he be a good choice for veep?" the advisor said. "He had 18 years in the House. He is a two-term governor of a major state Obama won twice, Ohio. He has been thoroughly vetted via running for president and two statewide elections." In contrast, Cruz is still serving his first term in the Senate, and Trump has never held elected office. Both candidates are running on the premise of outsider appeal.
Another anonymous campaign adviser suggested that Kasich's long political history would make him an easy sell to Republican Party leadership, too, saying that he would be "acceptable to a significant portion of the establishment."
