Sen. Tim Scott expected to endorse Marco Rubio
On Tuesday, a day after the Iowa caucuses, Sen. Marco Rubio will get a pretty high profile endorsement from Sen. Tim Scott, the junior senator from South Carolina and the only black Republican in the Senate, The New York Times reports, citing "three people familiar with his plans." South Carolina is the third state to vote for the GOP nominee, and with Rubio projected to exceed expectations in Iowa, the announcement is likely aimed at New Hampshire voters as well as setting up a strong showing for Rubio in the Palmetto State.
"I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Sen. Tim Scott didn't just wake up today and decide to throw his support Rubio's way," said David Wasserman at FiveThirtyEight. "For Team Marco, tonight seems like it's all about vaulting from laying low/tamping down expectations to pouring it on and claiming 'big mo.'"
