4 states vote Tuesday, but all eyes are on Michigan
Michigan is the big prize on Tuesday as Republicans and Democrats vote in Michigan and Mississippi primaries and Republicans also vote in a primary in Idaho and caucus in Hawaii. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump lead in the Michigan polls, but Sen. Bernie Sanders (I) is hoping his attacks on Clinton's past support for free-trade pacts will help lead him to an upset. Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) has also spent a lot of time in Michigan trying to win over his neighboring state.
Kasich has yet to win a primary, and if he fails to win Michigan on Tuesday or Ohio next week, he is expected to drop out of the race. On the Democratic side, a Sanders win in Michigan would be seen as a sign he can challenge Clinton among minority and working-class Democrats. Cook Political Report analyst David Wasserman is skeptical. "The Democratic race is fundamentally over at this point," he said. "Sanders is still in the race to make the point, but it's not a close contest. Michigan will further drive that point home."
