Man shot by police after drawing gun at Capitol Visitor Center

The U.S. Capitol and the White House were briefly on lockdown Monday after a man allegedly drew a gun at a Capitol Visitor Center security checkpoint, Capitol Police Chief Matthew Verderosa said in a news conference.

The suspect, who has not yet been publicly identified, was shot by police and taken to the hospital. His condition is not known. A female bystander was also injured, Verderosa said.
