Donald Trump to kick off series of fundraisers in California
The first in what is expected to be a series of fundraisers for Donald Trump's campaign and a still-forming joint fundraising committee with the Republican National Committee will be held May 25 in Los Angeles.
The event will be hosted at the home of Trump friend and real estate investor Thomas Barrack Jr., and will include a photo line, cocktails, and dinner, sources told The Washington Post. It could be the first of as many as 50 fundraising events quickly being set up by the presumptive Republican nominee's campaign and the RNC, with the goal to raise $1 billion to support both.
Trump has boasted throughout his campaign that he is entirely self-funded. He is now finalizing plans with the RNC to create a joint fundraising committee that is able to accept large donations and will be led by senior party financiers, the Post reports. Trump has the support of some prominent donors and fundraisers, but many top bundlers are privately sharing their reservations about backing him, the Post says, and while they are offering to share their list of donors, they don't want to receive any credit for checks they bring in. In 2012, Republican nominee Mitt Romney began raising money in early April through a joint fundraising agreement with four state parties and three national Republican party committees; he brought in nearly $500 million by the end of the election.
