Donald Trump "has surprised a lot of people with the breadth of his appeal across the country," Stephen Colbert said on Tuesday's live, post–Republican National Convention Late Show. "He won more votes than anybody expected. But there is one group that he has trouble reaching: African-Americans." According to one poll, Trump has 0 percent black support in Ohio, which is hosting this year's GOP convention, "but there is at least one African-American person attending the convention," Colbert said, and "we got ahold of him."
Colbert then cut to a live interview with "Frank Walters" on the floor of the convention (or, rather, Keegan-Michael Key in front of a green screen), and asked what it's like being one of the few African-Americans attending the convention. "You know, it's incredible, Stephen," Key's character said enthusiastically. "From the moment I got here, everyone has been so nice. They gave me a hat, they gave me a shirt, they're always putting me on camera for some reason — I've never been so popular in my life." But things aren't exactly what they seem, and the lightly mocking interview ends on a serious note. Watch below. Peter Weber
