On Tuesday, the parents of Anton Yelchin, the Star Trek actor who was killed in an accident involving his car in June, will file a wrongful death lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler, their attorney said.
Yelchin, 27, was killed at his home in Studio City, California, when his Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled down the driveway and pinned him against a brick pillar. Because Fiat Chrysler and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration received several complaints about drivers being confused by the vehicle's gear shifter, with some getting out of their cars thinking they were in park when they were actually in neutral, Yelchin's vehicle was under recall. The NHTSA received close to 700 complaints about the gear shifter, and knows of 266 accidents, with 68 involving injuries.
In addition to Fiat Chrysler, Yelchin's parents, Viktor and Irina Yelchin, will sue AutoNation and ZF North America, the manufacturer of the gear shifter, Variety reports.
