Tiger Woods will end his 14-month hiatus from competitive golf. The beleaguered golf star announced Friday he'll be playing in the Safeway Open next week, news the PGA confirmed Friday. After much speculation regarding the 14-time major champion's rehabilitation from back injury, Woods has formally committed to the PGA's season-opening tournament in Napa, California.

Woods had until 5 p.m. Friday to decide whether to keep his name on the roster. He had initially announced his intent to play the Safeway tournament last month.

The last time Woods played at a PGA Tour event was at the Wyndham Championship in August 2015. Since then, Woods has had three back surgeries — two in September 2015 and a follow-up procedure the next month.
