Things have steadily improved for Sean Spicer since leaving the White House last month — he no longer has to exaggerate about the size of crowds, for instance, or hide out in the bushes after dark, and he finally got to do something that was tantalizingly out of reach during his tenure as White House press secretary: meet Pope Francis.

Spicer is Catholic, and he was one of the White House officials who did not get to meet the pontiff during President Trump's trip to the Vatican in May, in what was viewed as a major slight. This Sunday, that all changed during the annual meeting of the International Catholic Legislators Network. A Vatican spokesman confirmed that Spicer had an audience with the pope, and he was spotted enthusiastically taking photos of him and shaking his hand, The Associated Press reports.
