Thousands of Washington Capitals fans fervently celebrated their team's Stanley Cup win Tuesday on the National Mall, with The Washington Post reporting that the biggest diehards arrived at 4 a.m. to stake out prime real estate on the lawn for the victory parade. The Caps' victory over the Vegas Golden Knights last week earned Washington, D.C., its first major championship in 26 years.

Team captain Alex Ovechkin soaked up the moment, posting on Instagram: "Now we can celebrate all together and remember this moment for all our lives."
