The new Ghostbusters may star Stranger Things' Finn Wolfhard and The Leftovers' Carrie Coon
Just as Stranger Things borrowed from the original Ghostbusters, it looks like the new Ghostbusters will borrow from Stranger Things.
Finn Wolfhard is in talks to star in the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel from director Jason Reitman, as is The Leftovers' Carrie Coon, Variety reports. The plot of this sequel will reportedly center around a single mother and her family. Coon would be playing the mother, while Wolfhard would play her son.
Wolfhard, of course, is a natural pick given his resume, and a fairly ironic one considering his character dressed up as a Ghostbuster for much of a Stranger Things episode. In fact, Variety reports that there had been "rumblings" that Reitman didn't want any Stranger Things stars in the movie because of the "similarities between the two properties," but Wolfhard's audition was apparently so good he quickly got over that.

Previous reporting had suggested that the Ghostbusters in this new movie would be four teenagers, two boys and two girls. The casting of 16-year-old Wolfhard does fit with that idea, although Entertainment Weekly describes this reporting as "inaccurate" since the film is "actually more about a family, with the mom as the lead figure." All that has been confirmed about the movie, though, is that it will take place in the universe of the original two films, meaning the cast of the 2016 reboot won't be involved.
The new Ghostbusters, which doesn't yet have a title, will hit theaters on July 10, 2020.
