The video: Sharron Angle, the Tea Party star who rose from obscurity to challenge Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) last year, and will run for a House seat in 2012, treated some of her supporters to an impromptu performance of the patriotic anthem "God Bless the USA" on Friday. (See video below.) Angle had just delivered an impassioned speech to a group of 100 Tea Partiers, who had organized a Tax Day protest outside a federal building in Las Vegas. As a band broke into Lee Greenwood's popular tune, Angle grabbed a microphone and started belting out the lyrics, to the delight of the flag-waving crowd.
The reaction:
"Tragic rendition or homage to Borat?" says Josh Marshall at Talking Points Memo. "We report, you decide." Actually, says Chris Robertson at The Daily Caller, Angle displayed "impressive showmanship" here. Most politicians would have stood back and let the professionals perform, but Angle took a risk and delivered "a surprisingly good rendition of the classic song." Judge for yourself:
