Amy Winehouse makes a haunting admission in the new Amy trailer
The story of husky-voiced soul singer Amy Winehouse's rise to fame in 2006 and subsequent death of an alcohol overdose in 2011 is tragic. And new previously unreleased audio of Winehouse being interviewed during her pre-fame years now makes her fate seem even more eerie.
In the first teaser for the documentary Amy, Winehouse says she never had any intention of becoming famous. "I don't think I could handle it," she says. "I would fully go mad." The admission, which plays over footage of Winehouse before she donned her signature beehive hairdo and cat-eye makeup, paints a chilling portrait of a woman who didn't ask for — and was perhaps ultimately destroyed by — the level of international stardom she achieved.
