Howard Dean, the former governor of Vermont, said Thursday he will run for chairman of the Democratic National Committee, a job he held from 2005 to 2009.

"The Dems need organization and focus on the young," Dean tweeted. "Need a fifty state strategy and tech rehab. I am in for chairman again." Donna Brazile has been filling the role of interim chairman since Debbie Wasserman Schultz stepped down in July. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is backing Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), one of his top surrogates during the primary. New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley, South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Jaime Harrison, and former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm are all rumored to be considering the post.
