After Taylor Swift endorsed Tennessee Democrats on Sunday, twice-failed GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee tweeted that the pop star's endorsements wouldn't matter "unless we allow 13 yr old girls to vote." The former Arkansas governor may want to rethink that.
Voter registration is up, with 65,000 new registrations coming in on Vote.org in the 24 hours after Swift announced that she would be voting for Tennessee Democrats in the midterms, BuzzFeed News reports. For comparison, 190,178 people registered to vote using Vote.org in all of September. Swift's announcement came after she had remained silent on political issues for years, but in an Instagram post, she encouraged her 112 million followers to register and directly plugged Vote.org.
Clearly, not all the new registrations are because of Swift, but the director of communications for Vote.org told BuzzFeed there's obviously a connection, especially because the period after her post was their best traffic day other than National Voter Registration Day.
