Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) has emerged victorious yet again, staving off a strong challenge to win the Democratic primary in New York's 13th district. Rangel led after the initial vote counting Tuesday night, though by such a slim margin that The Associated Press waited until Wednesday afternoon to call the race.

Given the heavy Democratic tilt of Rangel's district, the 22-term lawmaker and third-longest-serving member of Congress should be headed toward a comfortable re-election.
