Lamborghini has its sights set on producing “more track-focused road models”, thanks to its “growing motorsport department”, reports Autocar.

In an interview with the magazine, the company’s motorsport after-sales chief, Silvestro D’Amico, said there would be “more exchanges of information and technologies” between the racing team and road-car division.

Speaking at the launch of the firm’s track-only Huracan Super Trofeo Evo, he added: “We are still new to motorsport compared to other companies in this field, but already we are having our design department working more closely with the racing side.”

Historically, the Italian manufacturer has stayed clear of developing racing variants of its road cars, as company founder Ferruccio Lamborghini believed motorsport was expensive and would add little to the brand’s image.

However, the company – now owned by the Volkswagen Group – fields its entry-level Huracan supercar in both the one-make Super Trefeo racing series and the Blancpain GT championship.

Its recent racing efforts have spawned the track-focused Huracan Performante, while Auto Express says a hardcore version of the V2-engined Lamborghini Aventador has been spotted testing.

While it’s not yet known what this model will look like, the magazine says the test mule used to develop the car bears a similar dual-exhaust system to that seen on the racing-derived Huracan.
